7 Ways to Avoid Being a Bridezilla By Bridget Mora
Remember that although the wedding day is your special day, it is not all about you. For instance, that guy at the altar - you know, your groom - is pretty important at the wedding too. During the excitement (and stress) of planning your event, don't make him feel irrelevant.
Please do not treat your bridesmaids like indentured servants. They are supposed to be your closest friends - it would be nice if that were still true after the wedding. Thank them with a special gift. Bridesmaid jewelry sets are a wonderful idea. It would also be thoughtful to provide your attendants with the bridesmaid jewelry sets that you would like them to wear at your wedding, and then give them a second gift just for them, like a spa treatment (choose something relaxing, like a massage, not something like a brow wax that implies your friend needs work done to look good for your wedding!).
Do not try to make over anyone in your wedding. No, it is not okay to tell the best man that his goatee will ruin your wedding photos and demand that he shave it off!
Do remember to say please and thank you - to your caterer, bridal shop, florist, photographer, etc. These are the professionals who will make your wedding vision come true - you really want them to be in your corner.
No matter how nervous you are during your ceremony, snapping at your loved ones will not help. True story: as one bride's father tried to lead her down the aisle at a stately pace, she was overheard snarling at her father, "I'm the bride - I set the pace!". What do you think her guests remember about that wedding?
If your parents have been kind enough to offer to cover the costs of your wedding, try not to bankrupt them. Weddings always end up over budget, but if you absolutely must have the Cristal instead instead of the sparkling wine, help pay for some of the cost overruns.
Most importantly of all, keep in mind that the wedding, magical as it may be, lasts for only a day, but marriage is for a lifetime. If you remember that, it will help you keep the rest of it in perspective.
